Anyone who has traveled much has encountered a "bad" travel experience.  Here are some resources when you want to complain about something.  The first thing to do, of course, is to contact the company's complaint department to try and resolve it. Be sure and document everything and always get the full name and phone number (and email if possible) of anyone with which you speak or exchange emails.) Some other resources are listed below.


How to reach a real person at Customer Service faster. Before dialing customer service and waiting forever in the "Voice Menu Tree from Hell" to be given a number to press that will let you speak to a real human being, go to gethuman.com.  If it is travel-related, go to their Travel section.  They give you the number to reach customer service plus what you have to do once you are there to reach a human operator (e.g., Press 0 at each prompt and ignore message.)

ASTA TravelSense - This is the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) web site for travel consumers. It has travel news, tips and alerts. It also tells you how to file a travel complaint including against a member travel agent.  ASTA also tells travelers about how to spot and avoid some of the current travel scams.   Remember, if it's too good to be true, then it probably is!
 
Better Business BureauCanada and USA  This is the BBB home page. You can complain to them or your local BBB office about travel-related business problems.  They also have a program where BBB members can add the BBB logo to their web site if they meet  BBB standards.
 
Condé Nast Traveler - Ombudsman  This excellent "consumer-oriented" travel magazine has an Ombudsman service where you write in with your travel problem or dispute. They may pick yours as one to pursue.  Each week on their website, they highlight a travel dispute that their Ombudsman has looked into which are usually settled in favor of the traveler. You can also explore their archive of past disputes and outcomes. You may find solutions to travel disputes you've heard about and gain important insight to avoid the same situation yourself.
  
Planetfeedback.com  They have a 1-2-3 Write a letter box on their home page. Click on I have a: complaint. Then type in a company name and click Search. You will be taken to a page where you confirm the company name and begin writing the letter. Pretty nifty!
  
FAA Aviation Consumer Protection Division  Good information about how to complain to the FAA about air travel problems.  Also try their FAA Frequently Asked Questions - Passengers search results.
