Military Tours

Here are some sites that offer military historical tours or have lists of military tour companies. There are tours available for battlefields of many of the wars fought on this planet over the years and going back hundreds, and even, thousands of years. Also see our Cemetery travel topic for military cemeteries in the world.

Visiting a battlefield, museum or cemetery
Here are some web search tips to find a battlefield, a battlefield tour, museum and cemetery.
  • Enter the name of the battlefield + battlefield.  Example: Iwo Jima battlefield
  • Enter the name of the battlefield + battlefield + Wikipedia.  Example: Iwo Jima battlefield Wikipedia
Wikipedia usually has a good article about well-known battlefields and lots of external links to other websites.

  • Enter the name of the battlefield + tours.  Example: Normandy battlefield tours
  • Enter the name of the battlefield + war + tours.  Adding a country name may also help.
Example: World War 1 battlefield tours Germany

  • Enter the name of the museum, if known, or use a war name or battlefield name. Adding a country name may also help.  Example: D-Day Museum France

  • Enter the name of a cemetery or the related battle. If you know the cemetery is for a certain nationality, add the nationality to your search. Adding a country name may also help.
Example: World War II American cemeteries France.
Note: World Wars are listed using both Roman Numerals ( I, II ) and sometimes as the numbers 1, 2.  If your search doesn't give you many good hits, try the other number variation.

Some Military Tour Resources

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
